Introduction to the World of Word Play

Abstract

Therefore, this paper focuses on filling the deficiencies listed above and recovering the lack of abundance of studies on these interesting fields. Firstly, in the second chapter, a detailed introduction of humour can be found (in a linguistic approach), then in the third chapter language play is discussed. The fourth chapter tries to demonstrate the important features of puns and two different classifications of them are also presented. Finally, in the last chapter, a small research (carried out by me) about people’s taste in puns (perfect or imperfect puns are more preferred?) is described. After discussing the relevant data, the findings of the research are also displayed.
