Special care dentistry is necessary for most of the people with a disability because their general symptoms function directly in the oral environment. This target audience is included in these groups: neuromotor deficiency, sensory impairment, infect-contagious diseases, disorders of chronic infections, and medical conditions. Periodontal diseases have been the most prevalent among the several oral diseases found in these communities, becoming an excellent challenge for dentists. Therefore, in each "special health needs" category, clinical characteristics, microbiology, and histopathology of periodontal diseases were identified. Such studies aim at fostering a more profound discovering of the mechanisms getting involved in the pathogenesis of new periodontal disease biomarkers that are helpful in the diagnosis of periodontal disease and tissue responses after gingivitis and periodontitis therapy. Several materials and techniques may be suggested as alternative therapy when they actively stimulate the regeneration of the periodontal tissue and facilitate the reconstruction of the periodontal microstructures.hu_HU
