The teenage period of the children’s life is very important as it might have a huge impact on their further development. They face a number of difficulties, such as mental illnesses and suicide. This paper aims to show the possible causes, such as heredity or family dysfunction, stigmatization, consequences of teenage psychological illnesses, and suicide and how they are represented in contemporary young adult fiction, focusing on Jennifer Niven’s novel All the Bright Places.
