dc.description.abstract | Dental erosion, influenced by intrinsic factors like saliva composition and tooth characteristics, is a complex oral health issue. The onset and course of dental erosion are significantly influenced by intrinsic factors. Enamel's strong mineralized makeup lacks regeneration, while less calcified dentin is more soluble, making both susceptible to erosion. Behavioral tendencies and systemic illnesses, such as GERD, bulimia, anorexia, diabetes, and hyperemesis gravidarum during pregnancy, accelerate acidic tooth degradation. Both the permanent and deciduous dentitions are vulnerable to erosion, requiring a multidisciplinary team involving medical physicians, dentists, and mental health specialists for accurate diagnosis and effective treatment. A comprehensive understanding of intrinsic factors is extremely crucial for developing preventive measures and tailored treatments to reduce the impact of dental erosion on overall oral health. | |
