dc.description.abstractParkinson's disease, impacting 1% of individuals over 60, exhibits higher incidence in men and manifests in both motor and non-motor dysfunctions. The progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons disrupts neurotransmitter balance, particularly in basal ganglia pathways. Diagnosis, relying on clinical criteria and advanced imaging, faces challenges in early and precise identification due to mimicry by other disorders. Treatment evolution involves Levodopa and various pharmacotherapies, yet prolonged Levodopa use results in motor complications. For resistant cases, Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) serves as a surgical intervention. The thesis explores complementary therapies, emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach for effective PD management and enhanced quality of life.
