Migraine headaches affect a great part of the population. This thesis covers in details, history, pathomechanism and different theraputic strategies. Its pathomechanism is not yet fully understood however by targetting serotonin receptors effective acute therapy has been developed. Preventive therapy needs to be chosen after careful consideration of the patients comorbidities and has multiple options, better listed in this thesis. Newer agents have been developed since the discovery of the significant role of CGRP neurotransmitter, however as ir remains a costly treatment it is not available to every patient. This thesis covers both acute therapy options and preventive therapies and comparison between drugs.
