This thesis discusses the different subtypes of myocardial infarction (MI) and the factors and comorbidities that influence its prognosis and mortality. It explores modifiable and non-modifiable risk factors, metabolic parameters, and cardiac and renal pathologies that significantly affect patient outcomes. The effectiveness of primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PPCI) compared to fibrinolysis in the management of acute myocardial infarction is also discussed. Particular focus is placed on the difference in mortality trends between plaque rupture-related MI and coronary embolism (CE)-induced MI. Ischemic preconditioning and collateral formation are explored as protective mechanisms that are more prominent in plaque rupture-related MI and may have a beneficial impact on patient survival. Lastly, the differences in pathogenesis and preferred treatment strategies for plaque rupture-related and CE-induced MI are discussed.
