dc.description.abstractAlmost all antipsychotics, especially Clozapine and Olanzapine, cause weight gain as antipsychotic-induced weight gain (AIWG) is more common than antipsychotic-induced weight loss (AIWL). Antipsychotic-induced weight gain (AIWG) is a major health issue that causes metabolic and cardiovascular disorders. Consequently, they result in a reduction in quality of life. Antipsychotic-induced weight gain is more common in the juvenile population than in adults. The management and control of these weight changes can be done by one or a combination of the following: lifestyle and dietary changes, changing the antipsychotic to one with less propensity for causing weight gain or using pharmacological therapies such as topiramate or metformin, based on the needs of each patient. The best solution would be to prevent the antipsychotic-induced weight gain from the start, as opposed to addressing it later.
