Trigeminal neuralgia is a severe pain disorder characterized by sudden, debilitating attacks that significantly disrupt daily life and present complex clinical challenges. Over time, the understanding of the condition has expanded from classical neurovascular compression to include idiopathic and secondary forms, requiring a diagnosis based on detailed histories, neurological exams, and imaging. Management has evolved into a multimodal strategy, utilizing everything from anticonvulsant medications to surgical interventions like microvascular decompression or stereotactic radiosurgery. Dentists serve a critical role in early detection, as their ability to differentiate neuropathic pain from dental issues prevents unnecessary procedures and ensures timely specialist referrals. Effective care ultimately depends on interdisciplinary collaboration and ongoing research to provide patient-centered management. Through empathetic clinical care and innovative therapies, the focus remains on restoring quality of life and hope for those living with this condition.
