Pharmacological Treatment of Alzheimer's Disease
Absztrakt
Dementia is one of the most common manifestations in the elderly in the western world. Although it can have various causes such as Vascular Dementia, Lewy body dementia, Parkinsonian dementia and frontotemporal dementia, the most common form of dementia is Alzheimer disease. It is no surprise that, as the life expectancy of the western world is increasing, the incidence of this disease is also increasing. This is primarily since it is a progressive disease whereby if the individual lives longer they have an increased risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. Unfortunately, there has been no cure for this disease and the primary treatment is to provide symptomatic relief by various pharmacological therapies. The aim of my thesis is to investigate the various treatments that are available for Alzheimer's disease and to look for various emerging therapies to prevent the progression of this disease.
