My aim is to draw attention to the crucial differences and similarities of the basic characters and point out whether these are rooted in their respective national heritage or not. Moreover, I will point out the social or political satire in the series, and identify the symbols and national characteristic traits included in the stories to make them specifically American and Hungarian. There are great differences between the two series such as their national origin and especially the era they were created in. In Hungary the Russian influence was very strong up until 1989 when the last Russian troops left the country and the Hungarian Republic was proclaimed. Similar political influence was not present in the US in the 20th century and so the economic and ideological background of the film industry was and consequently has been utterly different. By the end of the thesis it will be clear whether the differences only come from the people who created the series or the political pressure on them.
