Absztrakt
The American Dream is an idealized concept that tempts many people to the United States and implies that anyone can succeed through hard work and perseverance, however, not everyone can realize their Dreams equally. In my thesis, I will focus on this issue from the perspective of Latinas, a group of women who face many obstacles in the United States when pursuing their goals because of cultural discrimination stemming from their patriarchal and extremely traditional social structure, as well as their stigmatization by the dominant society, which propagates misconceptions and stereotypes about them. Thus, the purpose of my thesis is to investigate the challenges, such as cultural discrimination and assimilation issues that Latina women encounter when they pursue their success. In addition, I will discuss the rise of Latina feminism and give examples of the difficulties Latina women endure from Sandra Cisneros's book, The House on Mango Street. Finally, my thesis addresses the stereotypical depiction of Latinas and their consequences, as well as the economic, social, and educational state of Latinas, including undocumented women.
