Mary Shelley put much of herself and her environment into her first book, Frankenstein. The paper compiles information about aspects that did or could have contributed to the story. Many of the novel's geographical locations were chosen because of the author's own travels and ideological associations with each place. Her friends and family greatly inspired her, which shows in themes and even characters that she based on them. Her proximity to people educated in sciences gave her the privilege of discussing real experiments that claimed to result in similar successes to the creation of Frankenstein's monster.
