Over time, the quality of the world's air has continually deteriorated and this is linked to growing population and industrial activities. Plants are used as bio-indicators for air pollution based on their Air pollution Tolerance Index (APTI), tolerance to air pollutants increases with increase in APTI valus. APTI is determined by synthesizing the four main biochemical parameters that are affected by air pollution which are Ascorbic acid content, Total chlorophyl content, PH and Relative water content. The objective of this study was to assess and compare APTI values in a subset of 11 Rosa species that were collected from a garden on the Nagytétény hillside in Budapest, Hungary. The results revealed that APTI values of the selected Rosa species ranged between 2-8 indicating that all the sampled species had high sensitivity to air pollutants. The study recommends that the sampled kind of rosa species in this study can be used as indicators of air pollution due to their high sensivity.
