Takotsubo syndrome is an acquired reversible cardiomyopathy. Incidence is estimated to be around 5.2 per 100.000 females and 0.6 per 100.000 males in the United States for 2008. Mostly occurs in females between the ages of 62-72 in 90% of the cases. Both emotional and physical causes can be in the background. Prognosis is usually good with the majority of patients recovering.
