Congestive heart failure is one of the common medical conditions worldwide and one of the costliest to manage. Congestive heart failure is a complex syndrome that includes abnormality in cardiac structure, rhythm and conduction which leads to inadequate pumping of blood by the heart through the body and presenting common symptoms like pulmonary congestion, dyspnea, weight gain, arrythmia. Its diagnosis is centered on combined analysis of medical history, physical examination, and diagnostic test. There are various classifications of heart failure based on heart ejection fraction, physical activity limitation, cardiac structure with symptoms. Development of heart failure is age related; also underlying conditions like hypertension, cardiomyopathy, diabetes, infections are risk factors in developing heart failure. Management of congestive heart failure involves the combination of lifestyle modification like dietary changes and physical exercise with pharmacological therapy and surgical interventions in case of end stage heart failure. There are many effective treatments available for managing heart failure with ACE inhibitors, ARB, diuretics, and beta blockers being the common ones for patients with low ventricular ejection fraction due to their fluid retention inhibition action to reduce the congestion.
