The main focus of the thesis will be the discussion of women’s objectification throughout the novel with the examination of the system of Gilead, the patriarchal society, the hierarchy of women, with special emphasis on how they are distinguished from each other and what kind of rights they have, and also, the notion of power among women, how it is divided and the movement of power among Wives and Handmaids. The thesis includes analysis of the same issues present in the series based on the novel.
