Several Pharmacologic agents applied to the surface of the skin can kill the fungi (fungicidal agents), or inactivate them leading to lower rate of growth (fungistatic agents). Azole drugs such as miconazole, clotrimazole, and ketoconazole are fungistatic and mostly used for the treatment of dermatophyte infections.
