It is my intention in this paper to present an analysis about the Osbournes and The Osbournes deconstructing gender on different levels of their existence. In the next chapter I outline their basic stories and images – strongly connected to their being a family – on the representational level. This is followed by an analysis about how the environment of the simulacrum defines the reception of these narratives. Finally, in the part entitled “Aimee –” I provide an example of why it is impossible to get out of the system of gender concepts, but why it is still not a totally useless effort to discuss or present its contradictions. All this aims to find the key to the success of this family and their reality show whose soundtrack is based on one of Ozzy’s hits entitled “Crazy Train.” The song contains the following – much-telling – line: “the media sells it and you have the role” (“Crazy Train”). Such self-reflection raises the suspicion that the Osbournes are probably more functional than dysfunctional, if not as a family, then as media phenomena.
