In my thesis, I would like to present some of the tools, which are used by the European Union in its trade relations with third countries to protect and promote human rights. The most important means of this activity, namely the trade preference programmes and trade agreements are discussed in the first two chapters. Their importance is highlighted by several documents of the European Commission, expressing that the EU's trade and investment policy shall be based on values like sustainable development, fair and ethical trade and human rights, and the promotion of these values involves using trade agreements and trade preference programmes. The third chapter is dedicated to specific regulations that restrict the trade of goods which are used for or whose production is related to human rights violations.hu_HU
