This dissertation is on aspects of oral cancer, its diagnosis, treatment and some complications that may arise in those patients being treated for the condition. The section about the treatment will highlight typical treatment options for a patient as well as focus on the topical treatments that are available, their formulations and limited uses. Oral mucoadhesive drug delivery is a promising method to treat oral mucosal diseases topically and so this work will also discuss the concept, mechanisms, the polymers in use and some other additives added to enhance its effectiveness in the oral cavity. Oral cavity cancer is a common malignancy that occurs worldwide with more than 90% of the cases occurring as squamous cell carcinoma, two main factors that are involved with the occurrence of oral cavity cancer are tobacco and alcohol use. Prompt identification of oral cancer is important as mortality rate of the disease increases the more advanced it gets, the usual method for treatment is surgical resection and may include postoperative adjuvant treatment.hu_HU
