A doktori értekezés célja új NMR-relaxációs módszerek fejlesztése és alkalmazása volt porózus szénanyagok, elsősorban szén aerogélek szerkezetének és folyadékkal való kölcsönhatásának vizsgálatára. A kutatás során elemeztem a porózus rendszerek nedvesítésének relaxometriás modelljeit, különös tekintettel a polidiszperz pórusszerkezet hatására.

The aim of the dissertation was to develop and apply novel NMR relaxation methods for the investigation of the structure of porous carbon materials, primarily carbon aerogels, and their interactions with liquids. During the research, I analysed relaxometric models describing wetting processes in porous systems, with particular emphasis on the effect of pore-size polydispersity. I developed a simple method for detecting and eliminating the effect of thermal convection in NMR diffusometry measurements. I further developed triple-quantum NMR methods for the investigation of quadrupolar alkali-metal ions, particularly 23Na, enabling the distinction between bound and free ion populations. I developed a set of 1D and 2D relaxation methods for low-field NMR and applied them to the investigation of resorcinol–formaldehyde-based and graphene oxide-modified carbon aerogels. The methods were complemented by NMR cryoporometry and diffusometry to provide a comprehensive characterization of pore structure, wetting, liquid–surface interactions, and mass transport. Based on the investigation of aerogels prepared in ionic liquid–water mixtures, I proposed a mechanism describing the role of the reaction medium as a porogen and structure-directing agent. The results contribute to a better understanding of the relationship between the structure of porous carbon materials and their interactions with the liquid phase, while also providing new NMR-based characterization approaches for the investigation of porous materials.
