In my essay I will examine how Leonard Marnham’s childhood is constructed, what textual references can be connected to his childhood memories and their traces on his psyche. Exploring his connection to space, potential space rooted in physical space and the mother, I will reveal metaphorical and allegorical levels of reading and their connection in this apparently realist novel.
