dc.description.abstractMy thesis, "Pharmacology of Sedative Substances," explains how the drugs classified as sedatives function, their effects, and their clinical indications. This thesis demonstrates the mechanism of action of each of the sedative classes at the molecular and neurological level. Furthermore, it highlights the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of each sedative, as well as potential drug interactions. It also explains the potential side effects and the risk of dependence, tolerance, abuse, and overdose for each agent. Finally, it mentions the novel agents that have emerged to be used as sedatives, explaining their potential clinical indications and their possible use as alternatives to older established drugs.
