Alcohol, tobacco and illicit drug use are major public health issues. These problems are common in North America. It has been associated to create pregnancy complications in the pregnant woman and her baby. The objective of this review is to explain the adverse effects of alcohol, tobacco and illicit drugs use during pregnancy and to explain the preventive methods and public health approach which ought to be applied.
