In my thesis, I analyse a current political event, that is, Brexit. I have decided to choose this topic because during my studies I have learnt a lot about the history of the United Kingdom and I am fascinated by this development. In my view, the United Kingdom’s future affects all the European Union member states, and it is especially relevant to countries whose citizens work in the United Kingdom, and which have a close trading relationship with the UK. Brexit is a unique political event in the history of the European Union as it has never happened that an EU member state would like to leave the Union. As a result, several negotiations are necessary to organise the exit of the United Kingdom. These negotiations are ongoing but until Friday 29 March 2019, i.e. the exit day, many issues need to be discussed and settled. In what follows, I try to trace Britain’s relationship with the European Community, explore the causes of Brexit, and analyse the possible consequences of the event.hu_HU
