The effects of regional trade agreements on South Africa's trade flows

Abstract

This study aims to see the impacts that three regional trade agreements have on South Africa’s trade flows. We developed a simple gravity equation that allows us to test the impact of the regional trade agreements. The study covers 1995 and 2018 and has a total of 2864 observations. The cross-sectional regression results show that the SADC-EU EPA and the EFTA-SACU FTA have positive significant effects on South Africa’s trade flows.
