The effects of racial segregation on American sports
Absztrakt
This study examines how segregation affected sports and Black athletes in the 20th century. This thesis divides the topic into two chapters: Black History and Segregation and African Americans in American Sports. The first chapter is about the most important historical developments in Black history and segregation in general. The second chapter focuses on how segregation was present in sports; on five athletes: Jack Johnson, Jessie Owens, Jackie Robinson, Earl Lloyd, and Kenny Washington; on three American sports leagues: Major League Baseball, National Basketball Association, and National Football League; and also on three movies that are related to segregation, discrimination or race-related problems in sports.
