This paper presents an analysis about the main contrasts and similarities on the basis of the two countries' cultural and historical divergences in the American films and also in the British series by comparing them to each other. Furthermore, it also highlights the fact that the mixing of elements of the two different film industries are needed in both adaptations to meet the international viewer's broadening requirements towards them. The original, national-based and also the blended traits can be found in the two versions in connection to: Sherlock Holmes' external appearance, behaviour and the representation of his way of thinking; his relationship to other characters as appearing in the adaptations; and the showing of a more global view of the protagonist, concerning the theme of money and multiculturalism.
