Road to Hiroshima
Absztrakt
The Second World War brought to the world several irreversible and shocking moments: greater part of the countries participated in the war, the number of casualties were the highest including the civil victims during the Holocaust and new weapons and methods for killing also were invented and applied like the atomic bomb. In my thesis I would like to write about two of the opponents, the United States and Japan. Neither of the rivals can be judged easily, a closer consideration is necessary in order to create an impartial picture about the outcome. Previous conflicts, motivation, ideological differences and racial issues influenced the steps of the enemies. In my thesis, I would like to deal with both the American and the Japanese sides in WWII, their ideology, way of thinking and the evolved image about the opponents at home. Furthermore, I would like to take a look at their position in the world and their economic situation before during the Second World War. I would like to show the way which lead to the confrontation of America and Japan, the pacific war and the unavoidable surrender of Japan, and how the economy and social life changed after the WWII. In addition, my analysis will draw on two historical films Letters from Iwo Jima and the Flags of Our Fathers to present one of the most significant battles of the war.
