Lifestyle Modifications From Ayurveda To Combat Hypertension

Abstract

Hypertension, elevated blood pressure, is when the systolic BP is ≥ 140𝑚𝑚𝐻𝑔 and/or the diastolic BP is ≥ 90𝑚𝑚𝐻𝑔. It is a major risk factor for CVDs which are the number 1 cause of death globally. Untreated hypertension can cause complications and morbidity in the kidneys, heart and even the brain as kidney failure, cardiomyopathies and stroke. Current antihypertensive drugs used in modern medicine have many side effects as is well known and so this thesis is aimed at alternative methods of treating the disease condition.
