In this literature review, different instruments were classified to use during root surface debridement. According to the examined studies it can be concluded that there may not be significant differences between the different power-driven instruments. Comparing though with hand instruments, power-driven instrument do increase the clinical efficacy of root surface debridement, especially ultrasonic devices. Combining ultrasonic and hand instrumentation may stay the optimal choice.
