Language is one of the most important phenomenon which is present in our daily lives; we use it in every moment and in every situation. It is the main tool for communication because speech is the easiest way to express ourselves, to exchange our ideas or thoughts; to interact and to participate in dialogues with other people – in other words; to communicate. Thus, we usually take this ability for granted and most of us do not even think of the fact that language, which we believe to be a constant factor in our lives; might be lost or damaged at any time. Language disorders are also present in our lives and anyone could fall victim to them. In my thesis I will set out to investigate one of the language disorders, Broca‟s aphasia and will look at how this disorder affects the language use and the speech abilities of a person. I intend to show to what extent and how patients are able to recover with the help of tests speech therapists apply. I have chosen this topic because I find it really interesting from the linguistic point of view. Furthermore, I am also interested in how to recognize, treat, understand and communicate with people who have suffered from this language disorder, especially if they belong to our family or our circle of friends.
