Teachers play an important role in students' lives, as they can make a major contribution to their mental health, development and well-being. This topic cannot be discussed enough, as more and more students today are struggling with various mental health problems, which are greatly affected by the school environment. It is a timeless issue that will always be relevant, has been in the past and will be in the future. My aim with this thesis is to talk more about mental health problems so that it is no longer a taboo subject. In my thesis, I will examine and explore the impact of teachers on students' mental health through the films Dead Poets Society and Billy Elliot. In my thesis, I will argue that teachers are instrumental in promoting the mental and emotional well-being of students and can serve as guides for the student; much like the teacher characters in the two films I will examine: Mrs. Wilkinson and Mr. Keating, who used positive, supportive, and compassionate pedagogy to support their students, thus promoting the students' mental and emotional health, well-being, and indeed their lives in a positive direction.
