The thesis explores the crucial role of Safety Management Systems (SMS) in aviation safety, specifically examining failure modes in aircraft landing gear. SMS relies on pillars like a comprehensive safety policy, risk management, assurance, and promotion to establish a safety-oriented culture in the aviation industries. Proactive identification, assessment, and mitigation of hazards are central to SMS, fostering a safety-first culture at all levels of aviation operations. Failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) within SMS provides a systematic approach to evaluate potential failure points in complex systems, enhancing the safety and reliability of critical aviation components. The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) recognizes the importance of SMS in aviation safety, as outlined in Annex 19. This annex stresses a systematic and proactive approach to managing safety risks across all aviation sectors
