The purpose of this thesis is to investigate the role of religion used as a tool in the abolitionist literature through the Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass and Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Although, both of these novels intended to persuade people about the noble cause of abolishing slavery, a major distinction can be made when it comes to the analysis of these two novels.
