Historical Paralleles Between English History and George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire Sries
Absztrakt
In this thesis I tried to analyse and decrisbe the clear parallels between English history and George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire book series. The book series is based on actual historical events, people and political/social system dating back to the Middle Ages. I tried to highlight many of these events, place and people, for example the first chhapter of the thesis concentrates on the feudal system of our world and the world of Westeros, the eduaction of noble children, or Martin's Wall, which was inspired by Hadrian's Wall. Other similiarites can be also found, such as the Civil War of 1138-1153 or The Dance of The Dragon, as both describe the succesion war within the royal families. In the second chapter I compared Martin's King Robert to Edward IV and Henry VIII, as all there men have similiarities when it comes to their appereance, marriages, the uncertanity of their succession, the way they took their throne or political and financial struggles they had to face. Lastly I dedicated a conclusion to summarize the entire thesis.
