Trainspotting as a novel and as a movie also meant a significant turning point in Scottish cultural history. The novel was significant because of its spatial centralization of the plot and its phonetic language (Bell, “Leath Central Station). As a movie it became recognized because it offered an alternative point of view on society and with its brilliantly composed world it severed several notions which were worth studying. My choice was the point of non-conformism. The movie is filled with notion of counter culture and its aspects; from the tiniest gesture to entire scenes Danny Boyle presents non-conformism excellently and accurately. This thesis consist of a non-conformist analysis of the film adaptation; what methods and tools were used to express social opposition, and how they received a pictorial form.
