dc.description.abstractAfter second wave feminists stood up for themselves in the 1960s, achievements happened in the field of literature. In the 20th century, many movies, books, series, blogs, articles started to focus on and represent the position of women, and many female writers, directors started to emerge. One of them was Margaret Atwood, the writer of The Handmaid's Tale. Her female characters have to struggle, and as a result of this, transform themselves into more perceptive figures. Her primary focus was on the position of women in society in The Handmaid’s Tale. This thesis sets out to examine the representation of women in the series version of The Handmaids Tale and I claim that the Republic of Gilead is a society that does not treat women as human beings but rather as objects, while going back to the norms of the past, and not ensuring women their right to choose whether they would like to be a part of its society, forcing them to live in a man’s world.hu_HU
