dc.description.abstractIn this thesis I intend to analyse the portrayal of anorexia nervosa in British television show Skins, with a central focus on psychological issues that can lie behind the formation of the illness. In addition, I investigate the explicit imagery of food and anorexic behavior that can trigger viewers into unhealthy dieting. As the topic of such a deadly disease had not received a place on British television before the debut of the first season of the show, it was revolutionary at that time and still can be considered influential . Principally it addresses and educates teenagers, although not in the most exemplary way as it does not always represent life realistically. The explicitly shown images of anorexic behavior and an unachievable body type could have a bad influence on viewers and their way of thinking. By presenting an inaccurate image of what is normal, Skins largely contributes to the distortion of adolescents' body image which frequently leads to the formation of a deadly eating disorder.hu_HU
