The development of new targets for clinically successful treatments, such as pathways inhibitors and immune checkpoint antibodies, was made possible by analysing oncogenic signalling pathways and interactions. Although this is a step forward in the treatment of melanomas, these types of techniques faced a number of obstacles. The detailed characteristics of patients who will benefit from each technique will be used to develop biomarkers for the most effective treatment in advanced melanomas.
