This thesis is highlighting the improved and the new ideas for protection against dangerous gas leaks such as methane in residential buildings or compounds or homes in general and this approach consists of dual level protection and these ideas expressed here in this thesis aims to approach these problems with new and engineered methods and automated control systems. The control system idea is to make the safety more enhanced and to make the building or the compounds or homes under constant monitoring where it cancels the reliance of human intervene or manual intervene where it is not always as fast as needed in most of the emergency or critical cases. The thesis is combining two designs for apartment safety to improve or enhance the protection against unwanted leaks which are mechanical and electronic designs, and then comes the control system where controlling the whole building monitoring which is very important since leaks from the main gas room is very dangerous and it puts a lot of life under high risks. Methane risks for the residents are multiple and cause several threats such as causing suffocation which may lead to unwanted outcomes or explosion if the concentration reaches very high levels. The outcome after implementing dual level protection, which is the control system for residential buildings and smart protection against leaks, leads to a safer environment. The first level protection which is the individual apartments allows the user or resident to have 24/7 monitoring via phone thanks to the microcontroller used and automatic shut-off valves if leak is detected and the control system for the residential building allows for also 24/7 monitoring and automatic shut-off valves takes action if leaks are being detected using pressure sensors which help identifies which gas pipeline is leaking to overall lead to an enhanced safety.
