Ovarian cancer accounts for more deaths than any other cancer of the female reproductive system. Standard treatment for ovarian cancer is surgery, with the goal of complete tumor resection but in some cases, this is not possible. Chemotherapy is employed as an Adjuvant or Neoadjuvant treatment using platinum compounds and taxanes. Targeted therapies such as VEGF inhibitors (bevacizumab) are one of the newly approved drugs that are used in recurring ovarian cancer. Although ovarian cancer cannot be cured, the overall survival of patients with ovarian cancer can be increased with these pharmacological treatment options.
