dc.description.abstractIn my thesis I intend to examine how these territories came under the control of the English king, which of these lands were inherited as family lands, and which were purchased through marriage or conquest. There are dominions that Henry inherited either from his father, Geoffrey, duke of Anjou or from his mother, Matilda. His paternal inheritance consisted of the duchies of Anjou, Maine and Touraine while he inherited Normandy from his mother. By marrying Eleanor he purchased Aquitaine, Poitou and Auvergne.
