International students’ experiences at the University of Debrecen: integration processes and internationalization efforts

This M.A. thesis explores the integrative processes of international students in Hungary, with a particular focus on the various categories and themes which affect the relationship between them international and local Hungarian students. Those categories can be mapped out as follow: The pre-travel preparation phase has unraveled the different factors which motivate students to venture into a foreign country for study. The second theme pertains to academic and administrative support. Categories such as language barriers, academic support, administrative support, cultural adjustment, and the complexity of the admission process animated the answers of IS. The following theme is related to social life, its categories contained interaction with Hungarian students, contact with other international students, cultural activities, and social support networks. Lastly, the study investigated the university's internationalization efforts, which included offering courses in English, having international staff and students, and promoting cultural diversity.

All in all, this research venture underscores that that integration and internationalization are essential for creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for international students. The study's findings can be used to improve the university's policies and practices to enhance the integration of international students and promote intercultural exchange.
