Neglected Tropical Diseases reamsin a major cause of morbidity and mortality in developing countries, mainly sub- Saharan Africa, Asia, and Latin America. It represents a public health challenge, especially in the tropics where poverty together with vector-favorable climates is the aggravating factors. Each of the strategies currently employed to face these challenges is seriously inadequate. Though, combined efforts of the international and local organizations have brought about significant improvements over the past years. Since 2005, there has been a drive for the expanded control of these diseases through an integrated approach of mass drug administration referred to as 'preventive chemotheraphy' via community-based distribution systems and schools, intensified case-detection and case management, vector and intermediate host control, and lastly, provision of safe water, sanitation and hygiene.hu_HU
