| dc.description.abstract | Opioids have long been a staple of pain therapy, but their usage goes beyond analgesia, posing issues such as tolerance, dependency, and addiction. With an eye on their interactions with mu, delta, kappa, and nociceptin receptors as well as their pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, this thesis explores the pharmacological processes of opioids. While addressing possible hazards like respiratory depression and opioid-induced hyperalgesia, it analyzes their clinical uses in acute and chronic pain, palliative care, and emergency settings. The study also looks at the neurological foundations of addiction, stressing receptor adaptations and opioid-induced changes in neurotransmitter systems. Examined also are strategies to lower opioid-related harm including new pharmacotherapies, better prescribing guidelines, and opioid-sparing techniques. The thesis looks at new approaches in pain management and addiction treatment and emphasizes the continuous need to reconcile opioid efficacy with safety. | |
