A brain tumor refers to an abnormal growth or mass of cells within the brain or its surrounding tissues. These tumors can be benign, or malignant and may originate from the brain itself (primary brain tumors) or spread from other parts of the body (metastatic brain tumors). Although brain tumors are uncommon and have a low incidence when compared to other tumors, brain tumors can nonetheless have a significant impact on a patient's quality of life due to their severe symptoms such as headaches, seizures, cognitive change, and neurological deficits. Furthermore, its mortality rate is not negligible. Therefore, early detection and accurate diagnosis are crucial for determining the appropriate treatment plan, which may involve surgery, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, or novel therapies such as immunotherapy and targeted therapy.
