My thesis addresses Oprah Winfrey’s professional rise, her influence over the consumer, societal, and political landscape, and ultimately how she utilized it at the highest possible level of American civic life, the presidential elections. I examine her journey, on one hand, as one that embodies the American dream, and on the other, as one that demonstrates the power of media influence in today’s media-driven world. As the story unfolds, I delve into the journey of her political engagement as it ultimately ends in endorsing the Democratic candidate Barack Obama in his 2006–2008 campaign. I compare this endorsement with the 2024 Kamala Harris endorsement and aim to identify the key differences between the two while also comparing two interviews that are the main manifestations of these endorsements.
