Absztrakt

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the gastrointestinal tract. It is comprised of two major groups: ULCERATIVE COLITIS and CROHN’S DISEASE. The treatment and management of IBD is complex and patient specific. It can be either medical or surgical, or in some cases a combinations of both. Due to the fact that IBD can negatively impact many aspects of the patient’s quality of life, and it is associated with high risk of complications or even mortality, the developed and wide range of treatments makes it very challenging in our clinical practice nowadays. Thanks to different approaches and newly developed drugs that can be used in several formulations, and in addition to the new techniques of surgical interventions, patients suffering from IBD can be managed and controlled in a better way to decrease their rates of complications and mortality.
